Waisted Story: Night Time Routine with Baby Girl

“Mom, why do you wear these?”

My 6-year old points to my new TeMi Beads waistbeads during our nighttime routine. I had noticed her checking them out and knew the question was coming. She’s my overthinker so it takes a while but I habe learned to definitely expect the questions.

“They are my reminders.”

Her head cocked to the side tells me that’s not a good enough explanation. I take her hand and place it gently on my beads.

“They remind me that I’m beautiful. That I am worth everything that I have and want. That I am capable and can work hard to get it. They tell me when I have eaten too much. And ummm...daddy likes them too.”

“All of THAT!” Will they remind me to do my homework? Can I get some?”

I had to laugher at all her questions. I could get her some TeMi Beads waistbeads because they would help her develop self-love and confidence. Some African children are waisted as babies. But I did not feel like talking about it tonight. It was way past her bedtime.

“Darling, let’s talk about you getting some later. I will remind you to get your homework done. ”
